Overview

Arusha National Park is small, green and different from the great plains parks. Mount Meru rises above it, the Ngurdoto crater lies in its heart, and the Momela lakes turn pink with flamingos. It is one of the few parks where you can walk and paddle a canoe as well as drive.

Two nights at Hatari Lodge, in the foothills of the mountain, make an easy, beautiful short safari, and a good first or last stop on a longer trip.

Highlights

  • Giraffes and black-and-white colobus monkeys
  • The Ngurdoto crater and the Momela lakes
  • A guided walking safari with an armed ranger
  • A canoe trip on the lakes
  • Two nights at Hatari Lodge
