Why travel with us
Plenty of companies can book you a lodge and a gorilla permit. What we offer is harder to copy: people who live here, a safari planned for you alone, and the truth, even when it costs us a booking.
Private safaris only
Planned in Africa
Permits secured early
Support day and night
The short answer
We never sell seats on a shared vehicle or slot you into someone else’s itinerary. Every Uwera journey begins with a conversation about you: what you hope to feel, how you like to travel, how early you are happy to wake for a game drive and how much time you want to simply sit and watch.
From there, one specialist shapes the route, the lodges, the guides and the rhythm of each day, and stays with you until you are home again.
No group departures. No fixed brochure. No one else’s plan.
Six reasons
These are the things our guests tell us mattered most, long after the photographs were sorted.
01
Your vehicle, your guide, your pace. We never add strangers to fill seats, so a long lunch or one more hour with the elephants is simply your call.
02
Our team lives and works in East Africa. We know which lodges have changed hands, which roads turn to mud in April and which guide comes alive when the birders arrive.
03
If a lodge is past its best or a route would spend your days in the car, we say so. Sometimes the right advice is a different month, and we will tell you that too.
04
Gorilla and chimpanzee permits sell out months ahead. We secure them in your name as soon as you confirm, then build the rest of the journey around those precious dates.
05
The specialist who plans your trip stays with you through it. On the ground, your guide and our support line are there around the clock.
06
Part of every safari supports conservation and the families who live beside the parks. Our Responsible Travel Policy explains exactly how.
The Uwera promise
What you can count on
Uwera is a young company, and we know trust is earned rather than claimed. These are the standards we hold ourselves to on every enquiry and every journey.
A named specialist answers your enquiry within one working day, with thoughtful questions and ideas rather than a template.
Your quote shows exactly what is included and what is not. Once you have paid in full, the only changes we pass on are fees set by governments or park authorities.
Our 4x4 safari vehicles have pop-up roofs for game viewing, and every guest has a window seat on every drive.
Experienced guides, a clear emergency plan for every route and a direct line to our team, day or night, for anything at all.
Plan with us and hold us to every one of them.
