Overview

Lake Mburo is small, gentle and full of animals you will not see elsewhere in Uganda: impala, eland and Burchell’s zebra. There are no elephants here, which means you can leave the vehicle and walk or ride among the herds.

It is a perfect short safari for a first visit to Uganda or for a family with younger children. Mihingo Lodge, on a granite ridge above a waterhole, keeps its own horses and knows the park’s leopards well.

Highlights

  • Horseback safari among zebra and eland
  • A walking safari with an armed ranger
  • Boat trip among hippo and crocodile on Lake Mburo
  • Night drive for leopard, bushbabies and hyena

Day 2 On horseback and on the lake Lake Mburo National Park

Morning is the best time to ride. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, the lodge matches you with a horse and takes you out among the herds; the animals are far less wary of horses than of vehicles. After lunch and a rest, a boat trip on Lake Mburo brings you close to hippo, crocodile and the elusive African finfoot.
