Eastern Uganda feels a world away from the safari circuit. The three waterfalls of Sipi tumble off the slopes of Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano with one of the largest calderas on earth, and the farms around them grow some of Uganda’s best Arabica coffee.
You walk to all three falls with a local guide, spend a morning learning how coffee goes from cherry to cup, and hike into the forests of the national park. The air is cool, the views run all the way to the plains of Karamoja, and there is hardly another visitor.
