Overview

Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta and the safari capital of Botswana. It is a dusty frontier town on the Thamalakane River, with a busy airport, supermarkets, outfitters and a handful of lodges. Almost every Delta journey starts here, and a night or two gives you time to rest, shop and organise your flights.

The town has a friendly, rough-and-ready feel, with donkey carts and small-plane traffic side by side. It is a good place to take a scenic flight over the Delta, visit the Maun Educational Park or the Nhabe Museum, or enjoy a quiet drink by the river.
