Kasane is the gateway to Chobe National Park and the northern tip of Botswana, a small, friendly town on the Chobe River where four countries meet: Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the starting point for river cruises and game drives, and a convenient base for day trips to Victoria Falls, about an hour away.
The Chobe riverfront begins on the edge of town, and elephants often walk past lodges at dusk. The Kazungula Bridge, opened in 2021, links Botswana and Zambia over the Zambezi. Kasane makes a good first or last stop on a journey through the Delta, Chobe and Victoria Falls.
Elephants walk through town and past the lodges, and the Chobe River in front of Kasane has hippo, crocodile, buffalo, puku, waterbuck and many birds. The nearby Chobe Forest Reserve and Kasane Forest are good for walks.
Kasane is hot in summer, with daytime temperatures of 32°C to 36°C and rain from November to March. Winter days are warm and dry, with cold mornings.

May to October is dry, and the best time for river cruises and game drives.
November to March is hot and humid, with storms and a green landscape.
Kasane is a year-round base. The dry months are the best for the Chobe riverfront.

Kasane Airport has flights from Johannesburg, Maun and Victoria Falls. The transfer from Victoria Falls Airport takes about an hour and a half including the border formalities. The Kazungula Bridge connects Botswana with Zambia.
Citizens of many countries, including the UK, US, Canada, Australia and most of the EU, can enter Botswana without a visa for up to 90 days. A KAZA UniVisa allows day trips between Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana for some nationalities. Please check the rules for your passport.
Kasane is a malaria area, with the highest risk from November to May, so please take advice.
