Kafue is a park of two halves. In the south the river and woodland make a classic bush setting, and in the far north the Busanga Plains open into a vast, flat floodplain, where lions, red lechwe and roan antelope gather in the dry season and the sky is full of birds.
Two nights at Ila Safari Lodge and three at Shumba Camp, on the edge of Busanga, give you both, linked by light aircraft. The plains are open only from about June to October.
