Overview

This is the compact northern circuit without the Serengeti. Tarangire has the biggest elephant herds in the region and a landscape of baobabs and swamps. Lake Manyara adds forest and water, and Ngorongoro Crater adds rhinos and big cats on a single day.

The drives are short, the lodges are among the best on the circuit, and it is a good first safari for a family or couple with only four days.

Highlights

  • Elephant herds and baobabs at Tarangire
  • Two nights at Tarangire Treetops
  • Lake Manyara, with hippos and flamingos
  • A day in Ngorongoro Crater
  • The Highlands, above the crater
