Overview

Murchison Falls is as good for birds as it is for big game. In four days you can track white rhinos on foot at Ziwa, walk the Royal Mile in Budongo for forest species, and take the delta boat trip where shoebills stand in the papyrus.

The pace is gentle, with a lodge on the banks of the Nile as your base, a driver-guide who knows the birds, and a morning at the top of the falls on the last day.

  • Southern white rhino tracking on foot at Ziwa
  • Birding on the Royal Mile in Budongo Forest

Day 3 Shoebill boat trip on the Nile delta Murchison Falls National Park

Take the morning launch down the Nile to the delta where the river meets Lake Albert. Shoebills stand in the papyrus and your guide knows where to look, with pied kingfishers, bee-eaters and Goliath herons along the way. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the delta gives you the best odds in the park. The afternoon is for a game drive north of the river, where lions and giraffe are often seen.
