Take the morning flight from Wilson Airport to the Mara. Your Angama guide meets you at the airstrip and you game drive your way up to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you drop back down into the reserve to find the resident lion prides.

Rise before dawn for a hot-air balloon flight over the plains, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. Or head out in the vehicle with a picnic and stay out all day, following cheetah on the hunt and, in season, the migration herds along the river.

Pack light, neutral colours for game drives, a warm fleece for early mornings, a sun hat and good sunscreen. Light aircraft have a soft-bag limit of 15 kg per person including hand luggage, so leave the hard suitcases at home.
