Overview

The shoebill looks like something left over from the age of dinosaurs, and Mabamba Swamp, an hour from Entebbe, is the easiest place in Uganda to find one. You go out at first light in a wooden canoe with a local guide who knows exactly where the birds have been fishing.

It is the perfect first or last day of a Uganda journey, and it fits neatly around an international flight.

Highlights

  • Shoebill search by canoe in Mabamba Swamp
  • Papyrus gonolek, pygmy goose and malachite kingfisher
  • Lunch on the shore of Lake Victoria
  • Easy to fit around a flight from Entebbe
