Mount Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa, and Point Lenana, just under 5,000 metres, is its trekkers’ summit. The Sirimon route is a quiet, gradual way up: forest, then moorland, then the Mackinder Valley, with the twin peaks overhead.
You walk with a mountain guide, a cook and porters, sleep in camps, and have a long day on the third morning to reach the summit for sunrise. It is cold, steep and worth it.
