Overview

This is the long way through Uganda, built as a single line so you never retrace a road. You cross from Kigali to the gorillas of Mgahinga and Bwindi, move north through Queen Elizabeth and Kibale for lions and chimpanzees, and finish at Murchison Falls with white rhinos on foot at Ziwa.

It is the closest Uganda comes to all of its headline experiences in one trip, and it suits travellers who also have Rwanda in their plans.

Highlights

  • Gorilla treks in both Mgahinga and Bwindi
  • The Ishasha lions in the fig trees
  • Launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel
  • Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest

Good to know

For gorilla and chimp treks, bring sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long trousers you can tuck into your socks, a long-sleeved shirt, a light rain jacket and gardening gloves for grabbing vines. Porters are available at the trailhead and we recommend hiring one: it helps your trek and supports the local community.

Pack light, neutral colours for game drives, a warm fleece for early mornings, a sun hat and good sunscreen.
