For reference, Tchegera Island is a small island in Lake Kivu, close to Goma, run by Virunga National Park, with a lodge and views of the Nyiragongo volcano glowing at night. Virunga's own information says it stayed open when other areas closed, but access depends on the situation around Goma.

The island has a warm climate tempered by the altitude and the lake, with rain in most months and a drier season from June to August.

The island was reached by boat from Goma. Access depends on the security situation in Goma, and we are not arranging travel here at present.
