Overview

This is the short way to pair a classic savannah park with Uganda’s great rainforest. You drive west to Queen Elizabeth for the Kazinga Channel and its crowds of hippos and elephants, cut south through Ishasha, and wake in Bwindi on the morning of your gorilla trek.

The scheduled flight from Kihihi to Entebbe on the last day gives back the hours a ten-hour drive would take, which matters when you only have four days.

Highlights

  • Launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel
  • Game drive for lion, elephant and buffalo
  • Ishasha, where lions rest in fig trees
  • Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi
  • Scheduled flight home from Kihihi

Good to know

For gorilla and chimp treks, bring sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long trousers you can tuck into your socks, a long-sleeved shirt, a light rain jacket and gardening gloves for grabbing vines. Porters are available at the trailhead and we recommend hiring one: it helps your trek and supports the local community.

Pack light, neutral colours for game drives, a warm fleece for early mornings, a sun hat and good sunscreen. Light aircraft have a soft-bag limit of 15 kg per person including hand luggage, so leave the hard suitcases at home.
